3 outstanding Victorians celebrated for their contribution to Cricket
Peter Siddle, Claudia Fatone and David Richards stories are varied but have left an significant mark on the International stage in the case of Siddle and Richards. The former as an outstanding medium-fast, workhorse or strike bowler for his State and Country, with 221 wickets in 67 Tests. His first wicket was Sachin Tendulkar in Mohali and he famously took an Ashes Hat Trick on his 26th birthday at the GABBA in 2010.

The later, David Richards served a 21 year period as the Chief Executive of Cricket Australia and then the ICC. He famously brokered peace talks with Kerry Packer to resolve the World Series Cricket Crisis and helped establish major sponsorships to greatly grow revenue for International Cricket fixtures and player payments.

As for Claudia Fatone, her determination to tackle issues and raise the standards and conditions of women’s cricket at Metropolitan and State level took her to the top of the Victorian Womens Cricket Association. She co-ordinated their entry to Womens Premier Cricket, for First and Second XIs. She was the first woman to be on the Board of Cricket Victoria.

Claudia was interviewed by Ian Crawford former Taverners Victoria committeeman and Prahran CC legend. Claudia’s great legacy can be seen in the professionalisation of womens cricket and the massive improvement in their cricket ability. Our top WBBL and World Champion women players can now focus full time on their cricket without having other employment pressures. Claudia still contributes to the development of Junior Girls cricket through coaching the Ringwood Under 12s A Grade team who compete for a Shield named after her. She is currently the CEO of Women’s Legal Services Victoria which provides free legal aid to women facing sexual assault and family violence.
